Creative Writing G3-5: Crafting Original Stories

This course gives students the tools to turn ideas into well-structured, engaging stories of their own. Students work through the full writing process - brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing - while learning core storytelling elements like character development, setting, dialogue, and plot structure. Through guided prompts, peer sharing, and one-on-one feedback, students build the habit of revising their own work rather than treating a first draft as a finished piece.

What students will develop

• Story structure skills, including clear beginnings, rising action, and satisfying endings
• Character and setting development that brings writing to life with specific detail
• Dialogue and voice techniques that make characters sound distinct and real
• Editing and revision habits, learning to strengthen a draft rather than just correct it

Format: Small-group workshop-style instruction combining guided writing prompts with peer discussion and individual feedback, building the foundation for more advanced composition and analytical writing in later grades.
