Reading Comprehension G2-4: Reading Closely, Thinking Deeply
Grade 2-4 | Competition Focus: N/A
This course moves students beyond simply reading words on a page into actively understanding and analyzing what they read. Using grade-appropriate fiction and nonfiction passages, students practice identifying main ideas, supporting details, and author's purpose, while learning to make inferences and draw conclusions that aren't explicitly stated in the text. Regular discussion and guided questions push students to explain their thinking, not just find the "right answer."

- Vocabulary-in-context strategies for understanding unfamiliar words while reading

Format: Small-group instruction pairing guided passage reading with discussion and short-answer practice, preparing students for the more demanding comprehension work expected in upper elementary grades.
