Wordly Wise G1-2: Building Vocabulary for Reading Success

This course uses the Wordly Wise curriculum to give young readers a steady, structured way to grow their vocabulary. Students are introduced to new words through direct instruction, then practice using them in context through short readings, discussion, and guided workbook exercises. Rather than memorizing word lists in isolation, students learn to recognize words in sentences, understand shades of meaning, and use new vocabulary confidently in their own speaking and writing.

What students will develop

• A growing bank of grade-level vocabulary words used in both reading and writing
• Reading comprehension strategies, including using context clues to figure out unfamiliar words
• Stronger sentence-level understanding when reading short passages

Format: Small-group instruction combining direct vocabulary teaching with guided workbook practice and weekly review, building the reading and language foundation students will rely on in later grades.
