Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools

Five monthly problem-solving contests that build careful, multi-step reasoning - a deliberate step up from Math Kangaroo's puzzle style toward structured logical thinking.

MOEMS includes five Olympiad contests, each with five questions and a 30-minute time limit. Contests are held monthly from November through March. Students work independently, earning 1 point for each correct answer, with a cumulative score out of 25 across all five contests.

Students may earn a patch for placing in the top 50%, a Gold Pin for the top 2%, a Silver Pin for the top 3-10%, and the George Lenchner Medallion for a perfect score.

MOEMS gives students a recognized way to show careful mathematical reasoning before middle-school tracking decisions become serious. A strong result can help school teachers see a child's readiness for accelerated math, math-team opportunities, or broader STEM pathways. Because MOEMS is connected to school or institute teams, the achievement feels more visible and concrete than a casual outside contest.

How to participate如何参加

Students should first check whether their school already has a MOEMS team. Joining the school team is usually the first choice, since that is where the recognition is most visible within the school community.

If your child cannot join the school team - whether because they are too young, the school does not offer MOEMS, or there is another limitation - AAA is an official MOEMS institute team. Students can participate through AAA's team and gain authentic, official contest experience.
